EXTRA CREDIT FOR FOOD PANTRY ITEMS!

If students bring in the following items, they can receive extra credit. Our local food pantry is in extreme need right now! Please help if you can!

mac and cheese, cereal, soup, peanut butter, jelly, baby food, hot chocolate mixes, instant potatoes, baking mixes (like Bisquick), cake, gelatin, and pudding mixes, hamburger Helper type mixes, canned meats, juices, pasta, spaghetti sauce, flour, sugar, salt, cocoa, baking powder, baking soda, spices, vanilla, oil, shortening, pancake mixes, syrup, coffee, tea, toothpaste, toothbrushes, soap.

Monday: PowerPoint on plagiarism and how to avoid it. Homework: worksheet on how to avoid plagiarism
Tuesday: In media center to work on persuasive essay. No homework
Wednesday: Read pages 305-313 and answer the "post-it note" question in the story -- due at the end of class.
Thursday: Read pages 315-317 and fill out the chart on page 303 for the story from yesterday and the article for today. Homework: Questions 1-9 on page 318 EXTRA CREDIT: complete the "Writing" section on page 318.
Friday:VOCABULARY WORDS DUE! In the media center to work on paper (due next week)

Tuesday: fill in comparison chart for the new story, turn in at the end of the period. Homework: complete a chart or Venn diagram comparing and contrasting the two stories.
Wednesday: Comparing universal themes, talk about writing a comparison/contrast paper. homework: essay due tomorrow
Thursday: work on comparison/contrast essay-- homework: review vocabulary words for test tomorrow
Friday: Vocabulary test homework: two words and definitions of words using the prefix omni- (due next Friday)

WEEK of 9/28

Monday: notes over Unit 3-- activity: re-write a portion of a story that we've read in class from a different point of view. Then state how changing the point of view changes the story.
Tuesday: Quiz over notes, Notes over Stephen Vincent Benet, start reading "By the Waters of Babylon" page 175 HOMEWORK: do the "writing" assignment on page 186.
Wednesday: finish the story and do questions 10 and 11 on page 186 (due at the end of class)
Thursday: Notes on satire and purpose -- Read "The Storyteller" on page 189. homework: two words and their definitions that contain voc or vok as a root (means : speak, call, voice).
Friday: turn in vocabulary words-- classroom activity with "The Storyteller" -- write a story book.

Week of 9/21

Monday: Start a writing workshop that will last the entire week. -- Brainstorming/pre-writing day about the topic (write a biographical narrative about someone that you know well using anecdotes to give an impression of that person) homework: complete the prewriting worksheet as well as the planning form DUE AT THE BEGINNING OF CLASS TOMORROW!
Tuesday: Drafting day -- working in the lab on the paper no homework
Wednesday: second drafting day in the lab homework: finish up the first draft if it was not finished in class
Thursday: Peer Editing day -- work in groups to have TWO people peer edit the paper to improve on the draft. homework: finish the edits on your paper so that you can turn in the final draft by 4pm tomorrow
Friday: FINAL DRAFT OF PAPER DUE!! Vocabulary test, new root of the week homework: none

Wednesday: discuss/share homework, plot diagram the story -- discuss, questiosn 1-7 on page 13 (Due at the end of class) -- homework: none
Thursday: Note on author, read "Contents of a Dead Man's Pockets," discuss root of the week Homework: have two words that contain -vert and their definitions MUST HAVE WHEN YOU COME TO CLASS!!!
Friday: suspense activity, ROTW (root of the week) -- vote on words, quiz next Friday-- homework: none
